I got a letter from my bank today saying that paypal had tried to deduct £585.69 from my account!
Someone had tried to buy a laptop in the US for $847.99 using my paypal account. Fortunately as my bank account is close to empty the direct debit got rejected but I've been charged £30 for the rejection.
The delivery address for the laptop is:
Siti Nurjanah
Jl. legian PURI WISATA Hotel
Kaja
Kuta, Bali
80361
Indonesia
I presume this is the address of the thief!
I'm always really careful with passwords so I've no idea how someone in Bali got my password but I do think paypal is very insecure using only a single type in password!

someone my husband works with got a phone call from
their bank , asking him if he authorised anyone to take out
over $2,000 which he didn't.
it was because of a virus that was unwittingly downloaded
from facebook!
so becareful of sites you go to , and always be sure to
check your pc for spyware etc as some can be keyloggers
and doesn't matter if you have passwords stored on your
pc or not .. if you visit your bank online or paypal , even
if your password isn't stored , a keylogger monitors the
strokes you make with the keys to gain access to such things.
good programs to use are avg anti-spyware , ad-aware and
spybot .. best internet security system is trend micro pccillin
though the newer pccillin have been stopping use of avg antispyware
and ad-aware , though do have good spyware removal as well
as malware .... just a thought
I've now set up a spreadsheet with 26 random 5 character codes and each password I now use is constructed from 2 of these codes which are entered by copy n paste. There's nothing on the spreadsheet to link any of the codes to any password so it should be pretty secure. Thanks for the program info!
eventhough I have a paypal account myself ..
and of all my personal passwords , that one
is something completely different to my normal
passwords ..
hopefully your little plan works
and you're welcome ..
if you're still unsure of anything being on
your pc that shouldn't be there you could always
go here: [link]
it's the online version of pc-cillin virus scan ,
and it also checks for greyware , malware , spyware and adware
